The Argentine horned frog is a nocturnal, terrestrial frog, found in grasslands and forests near ephemoral freshwater sources, primarily in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. Ceratophrys ornata grow up to 4 to 7 inches, with females being on the larger than males.
Members of the genus Ceratophrys “hunt” by waiting for their meal to walk in front of them. They typical diet consists of rodents and terrestrial invertibrates They are ambitious eaters, going after anything that will fit in their mouth, which can expand to occupy about half of their volume. Ceratophrys ornata are often cannibalistic, even towards their own mates.
